2020 NTA Scholarship Winner- Carlyn Burba
The recipient of the 2020 NTA Scholarship is Carlyn Burba, daughter of Michelle Burba, school psychologist at John Paterson. The announcement was made on Wednesday, May 20, at the NTA Annual Meeting. Due to the online nature of the meeting, Brenda Dzwil, NTA Scholarship Committee Chair and Holly R. Miotke, NTA President delivered the scholarship money to Carlyn at her home!
Carlyn is currently a senior at South Windsor High School. She will be attending UConn Storrs as a member of the Honors program pursuing a degree in Nursing.
Carlyn’s strong academic record and vast array of extra curricular activities, awards and recognitions made her a natural choice for the award. Carlyn has maintained a 4.14 GPA while at South Windsor High School. Her academic accomplishments include a National Merit Scholarship commendation, being a U.S. presidential scholar program candidate, receiving a St. Michael’s Book award for academic achievement and social conscience, and consistent high honors throughout her high school career.
In addition to her academics, Carlyn is a 4 yr. Varsity cheerleader, who not only captained her squad, but was recognized as All Conference, all state and UCA All American. Carlyn was a member of the Jazz band and percussion ensemble where she was a student conductor. Carlyn has also been a 4H camp counselor and is an active member in her church - going on yearly mission trips, being a Nursery and Sunday school volunteer and a piano accompanist.
